About Us
A rich history going back four generations
Who Are We?
The simple answer is that we are a local, family-owned, small business, with four generations of the Johnson family who have been devoted to the craft of creating, designing, repairing and selling jewelry and watches since 1898.
The more detailed Story of Us is…
Johnson Jewelers was founded by J.G. Johnson in 1898 in North Dakota. The dust bowl and depression had Mr. Johnson seeking new opportunities for his family. He found the perfect one while attending a Shrine convention in Seattle in 1936, when other jewelers at the convention told him the small town of Puyallup, Washington was in need of a jeweler and watch repair. Within months J.G. was opening the doors of his first store in downtown Puyallup, near the railroad and not too far from where the store stands today. In 1958, J.G. turned the store over to his son Walt, who continued the family tradition of service with integrity. In 1980, Walt, in turn, handed the reins over to his son Robert Johnson and Robert’s wife Mary, making them the third generation to manage the family business. Today, Robert and Mary’s daughter, Amy Johnson, makes the fourth generation of Johnsons who have devoted themselves to the craft of creating, designing, repairing and selling fine jewelry and watches.
“There are reasons that Johnson Jewelers have been in business for more than a century.
In my mind it’s a combination of qualities:
1) creative, artistic and talented artisans;
2) high quality jewelry; and
3) personal attention to each and every customer.”

Our family is committed to our community, our clients, and our ideal of being the best independent jeweler possible.
We do what we love: making jewelry, restoring heirlooms, and establishing long-term relationships with those who walk through our door. We believe that each repair job, each new jewelry design, each conversation, is an extension of who we are: jewelers committed to creating a wonderful experience and providing an end-product that fulfills the desires of our clientele.
The great thing about being an independent small business is that we can make decisions which benefit our individual clients, as well as make the jewelry that we personally love and are proud to put our name on. We’re not interested in generic department store merchandise that hundreds of people will be wearing. Our focus is to provide a reputable resource where You will find jewelry that speaks to your imagination and represents your unique style.
We embrace the ethics of the American Gem Society and Jewelers of America, and are proud members of those associations. Our raw precious metals are sourced from Hoover and Strong’s “Harmony” mill products (100% recycled) and we fully follow the Kimberly Process for diamonds. Whenever possible we source Fair Trade gemstones.
